Cleaning Position

Reports to: Executive Director

SUMMARY

Need a reliable and honest cleaning person to work 5-15 hours per week at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. Flexible scheduling but some evening and weekend hours required. Work to be done between 5 pm and 8 am.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Clean and supply designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc.)
  • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities
  • Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs
  • Stock and maintain supply rooms
  • Cooperate with the rest of the staff
  • Follow all health and safety regulations

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proven working experience as a cleaner
  • Ability to handle cleaning machinery
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Integrity
  • High school degree

Cana Island Crew Member (seasonal position)

Reports to: Site Manager

SUMMARY

To carry out collection of fees, monitoring/coordinating of visitor activity, and collection/registering of museum store sales at the historic Cana Island Light Station; greet visitors and answer questions about the lighthouse and its history; ensure a safe enjoyable experience for visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Admissions

  • Warmly greet visitors
  • Communicate general information and history of Cana Island Light Station and Door County Maritime Museum
  • Explain the fee structure and tower times
  • Notify visitors of tower delays
  • Collect fees and make change accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain radio contact with store and tower personnel
  • Maintain accurate records of visitor count and monies received
  • Be able to explain and answer questions on the history of Cana Island
  • Upon guests departure – thank them, solicit questions and comments
  • Responsible for keeping area neat and clean at all times
  • Always ensure a positive visitor experience

Tower Guide – Bottom of the tower

  • Ensure visitor safety at all times
  • Explain tower climbing safety rules
  • Group visitors in coordination with top of tower guide
  • Be able to explain and answer questions on the history of Cana Island
  • Responsible for keeping area neat and clean at all times
  • Maintain radio contact with the top of the tower guide
  • Always ensure a positive visitor experience

Tower Guide – Top of the tower (Watch Room and Parapet)

  • Ensure visitor safety at all times
  • Limit access to the fresnel lens, prevent access to the lamp deck
  • Coordinate visitors with bottom tower guide
  • Maintain radio contact with bottom of the tower guide and admissions
  • Be able to explain and answer questions on the history of Cana Island
  • Responsible for keeping area neat and clean at all times
  • Always ensure a positive visitor experience

Lighthouse Store clerk

  • Process all store sales and make change accurately and efficiently
  • Complete all store transactions using correct cash register methods
  • Process all add on admission sales
  • Maintain radio contact with admissions
  • Restock store displays as needed
  • Advise Site Manager of out of stock and/or low stock items
  • Be able to explain and answer questions on the history of Cana Island
  • Responsible for keeping area neat and clean at all times
  • Always ensure a positive visitor experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and experience in customer service
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, good judgment, and excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Excellent public relations and customer service skills, including customer service concepts and techniques
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Cana Island Crew Member – Wagon/Tractor Driver
(part-time and seasonal position)

Reports to: Site Manager

SUMMARY

Are you looking for an exciting job? Do you have experience in driving a farm tractor? Do you understand the importance of excellent customer service? If you've said yes to all three questions, then you will enjoy being a wagon/tractor driver for Door County Maritime Museum at Cana Island!

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Transport visitors across the Cana Island causeway using a farm tractor and wagon
  • Help passengers get safely in and out of the wagon
  • Be conscientious and cautious of pedestrians and foot traffic both over the causeway and on Cana Island

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current driver's license
  • Experience driving a farm tractor or ability to learn how to drive the tractor
  • Professional and courteous attitude
  • Flexible work schedule (must be available on most weekends/major holidays)

Lakeshore Adventures is looking for fun, energetic, and extremely personable outdoor enthusiasts to add to our adventure staff. We have several full time (May-Oct) positions available.

ZIP LINE TOUR GUIDE –This job consists primarily of safely guiding small groups through our tree top canopy zip line tour. There are 2 guides per tour. Guides must be 18 and have a valid drivers license. No experience necessary but you would be required to take a training course at our new facility in Bailey Harbor. CPR and First Aid training would also be necessary.  This is a highflying exciting job that demands exceptional people. You need to work well with others, be in good physical condition and have a fantastic attitude!

 

OFFICE COORDINATOR –The full time (June-Sept) Activities Coordinator position is in our main office in Baileys Harbor. Duties include answering phones, making reservations, helping customers, cash register, inventory, returning emails, and facilitating the activities of tours, rentals, zip lining, charter fishing and more.  Must have a bubbly friendly personality and excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be proficient at scheduling activities and point of sale cash register transactions. Friendly and honest is a must. This is a very important position and we are looking for an exceptionally inviting customer service individual.

RENTAL STAFF/EQUIPMENT RUNNER-Full time (June-August).  Organizing/maintaining equipment, delivering paddle boards and kayaks, assisting customers, facilitating the day to day activities and helping out where ever you are needed. Qualifications include being friendly and personable, reliable and honest.  Must have a valid drivers license. A person who enjoys the outdoors and spending time on the water would also relate well to what we do.

CANA ISLAND SITE MANAGER

The Door County Maritime Museum’s Cana Island Site Manager is a part-time seasonal position (typically May through October) with responsibility for the overall administration and supervision of the museum facility in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.  The primary responsibility of the Cana Island Site Manger is to provide onsite coordination of general operations, visitor activity and museum store sales. This position is also responsible for greeting visitors, answering questions about the lighthouse and its history, ensuring top notch customer service is provided by all personnel and making sure all visitors have a save and enjoyable experience.
